Yvonne S. Eisele is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at University of Pittsburgh, Department of Medicine. She completed her graduation and Master's from the University of Oldenburg, Germany and PhD from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. Dr. Eisele completed her training as Postdoctoral Associate from The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California in 2013.
Throughout her career, Dr. Eisele has mentored many undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who have gone on to highly successful careers in science. She is actively involved in courses and seminars at the University of Pittsburgh, and enjoys helping her mentees develop their full potential in cutting edge science.
The Eisele lab focuses on age-related amyloid diseases like Alzheimer's disease and cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis. The team here has made seminal contributions to the characterization of protein aggregates that cause these diseases using a wide range of biochemical, molecular, and cell biological methods. By delineating the molecular mechanism of these diseases, they identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The Eisele lab collaborates closely with the clinical team, and is dedicated to translating basic research findings into benefits for patients.
